  1. It really depends what you want the bearings for and what you want them to do.

    Might I suggest ceramic bearings, or perhaps needle roller bearings. Perhaps taper bearings would be good or those that will run in a vacuum with no lubrication. I've always found traditional bearings to be good up to 175 mph in wheels.(not a cycle wheel.)  :-)


  2. The best bearing is a new bearing.

    I have found also that any and all sizes of sealed bearings can be purchased at an electric motor supply store for a very reduced price.

  3. The quality and condition of the surfaces in which the bearings ride is equally as important. This is where you'll find a lot of the cost of expensive hubs and bottom brackets.

    A good "A grade" stainless ball is fine used with machined, ground, and polished races and a very minimum of lubricant... just enough to cover the races and bearings.

    Putting high end bearings into average races will bring you no benefits other than bragging rights.
