when it come to shaveings get the all pine at walmart $6 a big bag and if you have a country max i would buy the 50 lb. bag of (timothy) pellets there for $18.  thats what i do i own 5 piggies, they are so cute and cuddly.

  3. You should get the big packaged recycleable bedding (the one that I use). There's a lot of bedding inside and it's recycleable. It also won't harm if your guinea pig eats it. If you choose wood shavings for bedding then you have to change the bedding everyday. But if you use the recycleable one you change it once a week. For food, of course hay and pellets. But you should give it veggies and fruits too. Give it around 3 pieces of veggie everyday and give it pieces of fruit every week. If it eats too much fruit, it will be sick. Good luck, and remember to let it have daily check-ups at the vet.

  4. I have 3 guinea pigs and they are a great choice for pets! I'm 13, but I think they're great for all ages. Anyway, I use Care Fresh Bedding under any wood shavings (except pine, guinea pigs can't have pine shavings, they can get respiratory infections from it). The care fresh absorbs wetness so you can go a little longer without cleaning out the cage. The food my guinea pigs love is Sun Seed Sunscription, it has dried carrots and stuff that they love. They also love Sweet Meadow Hay. For fruits and veggies, never give them iceberg lettuce. That can constipate them and they can get really sick. You're not supposed to give them any fruits or veggies that can give humans gas. But they love carrots and apples. Also, if you're getting just 1 guinea pig, you should be sure you'll have time to play with it and cuddle it often. If you can't do that often, you should consider getting 2 guinea pigs, because they don't like being alone. Good luck! Have fun with your new guinea pig(s)!

  5. I don't know about the food, but for all rdents aspen wood shavings is best. Pine and sedar have fumes that are harmful to your hamster. I have heard carefresh is good, but it is manmade, so i think it may have chemicals. If you want them to have a soft bed, DO NOT use something called fluff, it is cotton, and not only is it loaded with chemicals your hamster can get tangled in it and be choked to death. To provide a soft bed just toss some regular unscented toliet paper ot kleanex into the cage, and they will make their bed. Hope this helps.

  6. Aspen shavings are best, you do not have to change daily with wood shavings, you could go a week!

1 cup of veggies a day. Lettuce, parsley, red/green peppers, tomatoes, cucumber ..Only 1 baby carrot a day. Fruits: 1 tiny piece a week. Make sure to remove any and all seeds.

1/4 C pellets a day. I use Oxbow Cavy Cuisine.

    Unlimited hay

Do NOT put kleenex or toilet paper in the cage. Hamsters are way different then guinea pigs. Make them a soft pillow, even pet stores have little beds for guinea pigs.

  7. aspen shavings are best, since pine and cedar shavings are known to cause liver and lung damage to small animals. I use Martin's Little Friends guinea pig pellets, and they're just the plain, regular pellet. But my other guinea pig likes the expensive stuff, the pellets with the dried fruit and stuff inside of it. It all depends on the guinea pig really, but I would recommend Martin's, since it's really cheap, but good quality.
