  1. "Mucky Mable"

it was a book my grandmother used to read to me and my cousins etc when i was little and she gave it to me and i read it to my little ones, they LOVE it! it rhymes and it is funny and has nice pictures etc.

  2. i read to my daughter earlier in the evening and not before bed because it makes her excited  she loves them so much and will be up all night saying mummy whats that whats that mummy whats that and that shes only 16 months but she loves the farm book and peekaboo friends

  3. any of the KIPPER stories,

  4. My Daughter's 2 months old and LOVES Dr. Seuss. :)

  5. I used to read 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' to my son, he adored that book. He asked for it almost every night.

  6. My kids used to love  "The old Bear" when they were young, it's such a sweet story.

  7. I read my daughter what ever one of her books she wants me to read to her she has a lot of disney books and doctor seus books. there are lots of books to choose from let them pick some out at the book store.I don't think there is a trick to get kids to sleep fast but just go with what ever works for your child

  8. When I was younger I loved all the classic stories...cinderella, snow white, goldylocks, three little pigs etc.. Check out stories by the "the brothers grimm" or beatrix potter.

  9. "Goodnight Moon"

It has a really soothing rhythm to it, and lovely blue and green toned drawings. It's really designed to put your little ones to sleep.

  10. My kids are 8 and 10 and we are currently reading a chapter or two each night of the 1st book in the Hardy Boy's Series.  It has some challenging words, but it's just suspenseful enough to keep us hooked!  I have the kids take turns reading a paragraph here or there, while I do most of the reading so that we aren't reading for hours on end.

As for what stories will make your kids the sleepiest, usually its the entire bed time routine that helps a child relax.  I read somewhere that a warm bath or shower an hour before bed also helps a child relax and go to sleep because the rise and lowering of body temp.

  11. My child (aged 4), loves Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson.

It's about a baby monkey trying to find its mummy.  The monkey is lost in the jungle and a butterfly helps to find her.  The theme of the story is that a baby doesn't always look like its mummy, ie, a caterpillar doesn't look like its mummy (the butterfly).  Of course at the end there's a very happy ending.  The baby monkey gives its mummy a big hug on the last page.  I give my child a big hug then too and say goodnight.

It's a very touching, thought provoking and educational story.  I love reading it and my child loves it every time too.

  12. I don't have children but I would definitely read to them until they could read to me! My mum always used to read Cinderella to me every night as it was my  favourite. I still have the book 20 years later. I knew it word for word and learned to read from it. She would sometimes try to skip pages if she was tired or busy but I''d always catch her out as I knew it so well. I suppose it depends on how old your child is. So many kids do not get read to at bed time it's a real shame. Ask at your local library for recommendations.

  13. goodnight moon
