I am italian, was raised in Italy during my childhood. Food has a high value. You spend a lot of time at the table with your family. Food is an expression of love, mothers would cook for hours and there are multi courses. First, antipasto folowed by  pasta, second, meat then, dessert and fruit and coffee. Fresh vegetable are valued, microwaves are still seen as a short cut in really busy life styles. Spices are still found fresh on balconies and gardens.  Below are fine articles about cheeses and cold cuts produced in Italy.
