  1. i think it is a great thing to do. when i grew up it wasnt normal to have art class before the 6th grade...so when we finally got to show our artistic side, most of the kids thought it was just more work from another teacher..i loved it. when i found out the school had a band also, ( you  also couldnt join till the 6th grade) i told everybody i knew i was joining.. next thing you know when they had sign ups,  it seemed like the whole 6th grade sighned up......all my brothers were there to play drums,  even  my cousins also,  even though they were in 7th and 8th grade already, they thought if i could do it so could they...we had the biggest middle school band ever that year, it seemed like everyone in 6-8th grade was in it..i stayed in band thru-out high school, and all the boys joined sports, but we all were better because of it. we stood straight, had better manners, and more respect for ourselves, because we were doing something not everyone can do...reading music... gee that takes me back...lol .... when my grandson could barely talk i gave him paper and crayons and an old guitar....he loved it from the first minute. he loves to draw to this day, and he is 8... the guitar, its dusty....he wants to wrestle..LOL

    ..have a great day everyone

  2. The best way to encourage music is to play a variety of music in your classroom. Play music from different cultures, this not only help children learn to love music but they also learn about diversity. When it comes to art make sure that there is an art center open at all times in your classroom and encourage children to use their imagination and create their own picture.

  3. studies have shown that kids who practice the arts (music) are smart and do better in life!

  4. Both stimulate the brain and enhance learning. Art builds dexterity and increases fine motor skills which the kids will need for writing later. Music stimulate the mind in that singing songs help the children with their word pronunciation and besides they are both just fun and beat sitting around watching TV.

  5. Art and music provide great opportunities for children to be creative, to explore new things.

In art they can mix colors, develop new ones, they fine tune their fine motor skills by using the crayons and markers which will aid in their handwriting skills as well.

In music they not only get the opportunity to have fun and dance, but they can learn through music. They learn rhythm and rhyme which will help them when it's time to start reading, they will notice patterns easier in words.

In both art and music they can gain self-esteem and pride in seeing their ideas being put on paper, or into music.

  6. they may find their true passion early...im not saying at age 4 but earlier on than they mightve. also it encourages them to be more cultured and creative :)

  7. If they learn to love and see the benefit of music at a young age they will most likely want to be a part of it later on. And people who are involved with music are for the most part healthier, happier and live longer productive lives. (Not counting hard rockers)

Music stimulates the brain and helps prevent depression and Alzheimer's.

  8. Creativity is what is used and encouraged in all art and music. It helps with doing better in Math as the child get older. Art and music have so many different forms that they can be a quiet or an exciting activity. Music can encourage children to stay with their art activity (later their math or writing activity) if it is played at the time. Movement is involved in developing both fine and large motor skills. Art involves science, such as mixing colors.  Both are just fun happy activities.

  9. Art and music are the best ways to synthesize the academic learning the students have been exposed to.  It allows them to really make creative connections to what has been taught.  Also music is a series of patterns which is what all math and science is based on, found patterns in the world.

Art and music also allow for freedom of expression.  It is universal and all people and cultures have some variation of it in common.

  10. Oh come on, you know what the answer is....

All children should be exposed to both art and music.

There is a true artist in everyone of us.

Let it out, expose it, and watch it grow.

The earlier they are exposed the easier it is for them to learn.
