Question:

What benefits are we getting from spending billions unproven "fixes"?

How many millions will die because we are spending vast quantities of money to combat something we have no control over (I know some of you AGW fanatics will say AGW will kill us all, but there is absolutely NO scientific analysis to back up this idiotic statement).

We have condemned many in the poor nations to certain death because of our adherence to a "green" energy policy. How would you like to be living in a 3rd world nation with no power because the rich nations deem coal/etc as "dirty"? My guess is they would rather have a consistent energy supply instead of what we are currently giving them. Just like the unneccesary DDT scare (which has killed millions), the AGW will claim millions of innocence at the hands of the extreme "environmentalist wackos". It is time for the rest of us to stand up for those unable to do so.

  1. The best way to control total cost may be to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, so that we need buy less in the very near future.

Now on the side of costing billions to combat GW, well, in a way that may be true, but what we are really doing is spending to enable ourselves to avoid paying very large prices for fossil fuels as they become less available. If we were not driven by that demand for energy, we would simply stop consuming fossil fuels and have no cost outlay.

So this expenditure is not about stopping GW but  rather getting ready for peak oil.

  2. What billions?  Where are these billions that we're supposedly spending to combat global warming?  I wish!  Better global warming than the quagmire in Iraq.

Even if you're in denial about global warming, ever heard of peak oil?  Fossil fuels are a non-renewable resource.  Do you really want to watch the rest of the world moving on to greener technologies while the US continues to rely on continually diminishing and more expensive fossil fuels?

  3. This will be probably the the first and last time I will ever agree with (Dana).I'm not big on AGW,but I do believe in eliminating environmental pollutants as opposed to war.I still don't think CO2 is the culprit, but other concerns do need to be addressed.

  4. Like the Energy Star program?

Billions of dollars are being saved.

Like replacing light bulbs with compact flourescent?

Billions of dollars will be saved.

With enough savings, entire power plants will not need to be built.

Hundreds of billions of dollars will be saved.

Incent homeowners to install solar?  Incent builders to incorporate passive solar design?

More hundreds of billions of dollars will be saved.

A few corporate executives in the coal industry may be slightly impoverished.  Boo hoo.

  5. When you stand up don't do so in direct sunlight with out a good sunblocker.
