i am 23 and me and my boyfriend would love a baby but are worried about how we would cope with money once the baby comes. what would we be entitled to re: benefits as we both work full time and also live in private rented accomadation?

we'd both really love to have a baby but if it means struggling then we'd rather wait, we wouldn't want to bring a baby into that.

hope you can help x

  1. The baby would have his health benefits, but you would have to have your own for the pregnancy and after.  You could check with your HR department for maternity leave, but would need to continue to work after the baby is born to maintain benefits.  If you were married, you could have his benefits.

  2. I would second the marrige thing, just simply because of the tax breaks and the implications later then for any preachy reasons.  I would check with your workplaces and the governement to see what you'd be entitled to.  Maybe sit down and work out all your expenses now and once you had the baby (and I mean EVERYTHING) and work out if you can afford it, and if not what you'd need to be earning to be able to.

  3. It'll be easier financially if you're married...

You'll get tax breaks for having a kid... if you want to keep working full time after the baby is born it will be difficult as you'll have to pay for daycare, and you seem young so I don't know how much your combined incomes are. You'd have to check with your works to see if there are any benefits for you there when pregnancy comes. But, like I said, especially considering your age, it will be easier with marriage.
