Question:

What bike, specialized sirrus or cannondale adventure 5?

I test rode them both. The specialized is a lot lighter, but I feel all the bumps and am worried about the tires being too thin (can I put on bigger ones). Also, I am worried about not having the front suspension for the 15% rough patches that I will be riding over. The problem with the Cannondale (which has the front suspension) is the weight. I want to have the bike for a long time, avoid maintenance, and make rides to the beach during the summer.

Let me know what you think please.

  1. Both are hybrids, the Specialized is closer to a road bike while the Cannondale is closer to a mountain bike.

If that 15% rough patches you mentioned are unpaved dirt, yes the Cannondale is a better choice.  The Specialized is a more dedicated pavement bike.

I own a Specialized Sirrus LTD and it's a nice fast pavement bike.

  2. Eventhough they are both hybrids they are very different bikes. Since Im more of a Road rider I would go with specialized for several reasons. 1) Weight 2) Speed 3) Resale value 4) Looks. The Adventure 5 is more suited for casual on the block riding, just put a front basket and go to the market bike.

As for the tires check with the bike shop. They ussually can change (upgrade) them for a fraction of the price. I believe that a hybrid can be fitted with 2.0 tires but it depends. Ussually tires can be deceiving.
