What bike model/brand would meet all of these qualifications I'm looking for in a new bike?

Lightweight (because I live in an upstairs apartment, I'll need to carry it)

Decent Price (I cannot afford more than 500 dollars)

I ride 10-20 miles daily on mostly paved roads, occasionally some gravel. On weekends I do up to 50 mile rides and am working towards being able to handle longer distances. Comfort is important to me, but so is performance. I want to be able to go fast enough without too much agony. I am 5 foot 6 if this helps, as I know many bikes only come in certain sizes. I'm just having one heck of a time finding a good bike! Can anyone help?

yes just go to your local bike shops and ask them for a good cheap bike that will fit your needs

Or visit a bike store in the neighbourhood and ask them for help - do some research on what they suggest and make a decision.

You are in a bit of luck because this is the time of the year that bike shops start to blow out last years bikes.

Go to a couple of local bike shops, explain what you want, and ask them for advice. Make sure to go to at LEAST 2 shops.. don't buy at the first one.
