I'm 60 years old and thinking of buying a bike.

I'm not sure I can still ride but am determined to find out. There are so many choices i'm not sure where to start. I'm only going to be riding around town and on bike trails. I want something for comfort and fun. Any advice will be appreciated.

  1. There are many options. A lot of it depends on what you want out of your bike and how much you want to spend.

Cruiser bikes: These are large fat tired bikes that are built for comfort, not speed. They are not intended to go off-road like mountain bikes. If you don't want to spend alot of money, you can find one of these at a department store cheaper than a bike store.

Recumbant bikes: These bikes are very comfortable. You sit in them like a chair, instead of the traditional bike seat. However, they can be somewhat pricy.

Touring bikes: These bikes are built to be comfortable to ride long distances. They are also designed to carry gear. If you like going for longer bike rides, consider one of these. They can be cheap or expensive depending on where you go.

Road bike: These bikes are built for speed. If you want to ride around town and want to get there fast, choose this type of bike. Prices can vary.

Mountain bike: Like the curisers, these bikes have nice fat tires. This means the ride is easier than more skinny tired bikes. Also, you can use these bikes off-road. Many department store sell these for as little as $80. Prices can go to several thousand for top of the line.

Hybrid bike: These are a good all-around bike. They can be used for many purposes.
