He is 13 and his birthday is in a month. He weighs 110 pounds and he is 5'4. I have looked at Mongoose and GT and they have some good hard tails for good prices around $500.00 I don't want to spend more than $500.00, but he is willing to chip in $100.00. These bikes are with disk brakes and front suspension. I want this bike to last him a good 4-5 years, so i am going to buy him a full sized bike. Please give me some input on this and tell me if i am looking at the right brand. I need a good hard tail, durable bike for my son. I appreciate your help, as i have never bought my son a nice bike before. (I am on his account right now as i don't own one)

  1. maybe Royal enfield

  2. If you are going for a BMX type bike I would reccomend something off Danscomp.com or Albes.com.

DK makes some pretty good bikes and Eastern has some great ones.  Danscomp has great customer service and they will help you out a lot in picking the right one for your son.

As far as non-BMX though I don't ride those myself so I wouldn't know but I think Trek is pretty decent.

  3. get him a eastern grime reaper

  4. No offense to either of those brands as I do think that they make some really good "pro" bike shop stuff but the multiple buy outs with those brands in the past few years doesn't sit well with me if you want something that will be stood behind by the manufacturer.

What happens when a company is bought out usually means that they technically aren't responsible to the brand's warranties for items sold in the past. While Pacific, then Dorel, have honored these warranties so far, who knows what will happen next.

Look at Giant, Trek, or Specialized. All three are very strong in their warranty and are strong financially so they won't be selling out anytime soon.

As for the parts, the higher end parts you get means down the road, they will cost more. Just something to think about when you are looking at Disc brakes and newer things.

  5. I suggest getting a Haro or Diamonback they're good bmx bikes .and you can get on for about $300 or so.
