I am a downhill biker, but this summer I am planning on a bike trip. So I am selling my full sus and get a fine hardtail to get on the trip. I am biking from Vancouver to Calgary and up to Prince George and back home. I need a light bike. The thing is, I wana keep this bike even after the trip and still ride it around on trails and such. What bike do you reccomend?

P.S I was thinking about a set-up on SantaCruz Chameleon

  1. trek makes bikes that weigh about 10 pounds but they are not cheap one thats  good runs about $750-($8500.00 carbon fiber)

  2. You should get a Kawasaki Ninja RX9800, they are pretty fast and lightweight, I have one and i have hit 130 going downhill and it gets 82MPG, its a great bike and i think it will fit you well

  3. Depends on how you plan to travel. If you are going to only carry a credit card and plan to stay in hotels then any lightweight road bike will do. If you are planning carrying camping gear changes of clothes and food, It is better to look for a bike that is designed for touring. It will be heavier, but a couple of pounds when you are carrying 30 pounds of gear doesn't mean much. These bikes come with beefier tires that would be good for commuting if that is your intention when you are finished, as well as anchor points for luggage racks and lower gearing to help you up steep slopes with that extra gear. Have a nice trip!
