What bird could this be?

Question

the other day driving down the street I saw a fairly large bird and a group of babies along with it in someone's front yard.

I live in eastern Massachusetts.

The bird looked to be brown/grey and had long legs and a long neck. It was also quite fat. It had its head down and was eating off the person's lawn but it seemed to be about 2-2 1/2 ft tall not counting the neck since that was down and it didn't lift its head. It had a bunch of babies with it and they were quite big also.

I was wondering if anyone could know what kind of bird this could be?
