I would love a bird that can talk, sing, whistle, is friendly, is pretty, doesn't bite, cuddles, and can learn tricks efficiently. Also, is it easy to clip a birds wings, or would you recommend getting it done professionally? All answers are helpful. Thanks =]

  1. parakeets can do all of these things, I would recommend a male, they learn easier and are generally nicer.  If you're not going to play with it a lot you should get him a friend

A vet or pet shop person can show you how to clip the wings.  It's really not that hard if you know what feathers not to clip, many birds die because stupid owners clip the blood feathers and they end up bleeding to death.

  2. First off there is never ever a guarantee that a bird will talk or learn fast or be friendly.

Yes certain species are more prone to be talkers and certain ones are known to be clowns and some are known to be nippy. However much of this comes from how the bird is raised and handled and owned.

A pet bird that is smart well trained and chatty is one that has a owner who has educated themselves to know bird psychology and spends loads of time with the bird working with the bird.

I happen to think the Quakers are great birds. They are great talkers. Smart and funny. however unless you handle them daily and work with them they like all birds can become nippy. Quaker females can as many species females get territorial and protective of their homes.

Plus they are illegal in some states.

A large parrot that is smart is of course the African Greys These birds are like toddlers and require your undivided attention a good part of the day and a LOT of work.

Amazons are another great bird to own. There are many type of Amazons.

The important thing is to do your reading and educate yourself and find one that fits your life home and schedule

if you live in a apartment or row home you will not want a macaw or cockatoo. but would be better with a small bird because larger ones are LOUD

by the way ALL bird owners will at one time or another get bit

that is life and when it happens if you react to it the bird will likely do it again when it gets bored just to get attention.

Also all birds will make noise ALL will call in the morning and evening and maybe during the day if you do not react to the call it will not become a issue IF you call back it can become a issue

There is just a lot of work that goes into owning a parrot. if you go to www.birdsnways.com they have a lot of great articles

I have many articles if you want help feel free to email me through my profile

  3. mine! its kinda mean to everyone except me and he's really loud but he's my little buddy!

but my buddy says an african grey parrot cuz there way smart!

  4. Cockateils, Parakeets (aka Budgie), Love Birds, Conures & Quakers are the most common birds as pets because they are relitivly inexpensive, friendly in general (of chourse they have individual personalities so some may be shy or friendly or dominent) & very vocal. If you are interested in large parrots- African Greys are a favourite but are very expensive. They are extremely smart, said to "have the intelligence of a 5 year child". Most won't bite if the chick has been handle at a very young age.

Personally, I had 2 cockateils & they were wonderfull pets! They are very sweet, friendly, sing alot, healthy- I love them! Right now I have a white fronted ionus parrot & she's a real sweetie. She was rescued from a abusive owner, she has a great personality.

I was too nervious to clip my birds wings, I took my cockateils to a good pet shop & they clip their wings in a few seconds.

  5. I have an African grey. Shes easy to please and easier to care for than most parrots. However, they're a one person bird! Read up a lot on a parrot before you purchase one, they are very expensive and they can live up to 80 years old. its a life long commitment and an every day routine of cleaning the cage, feeding, bathing, and affection. Please do your research. But I do recommend the African Grey, They are GREAT mimics and talkers!

  6. well, i have a lovebird and a parakeet. love birds make good pets, are very friendly and bond well with a human companion once you train it daily. They come in various colors and are smart. Although, they are expensive and worth a lot. I would recommend clipping wings professionally and also parakeets are just as beautiful and they don't make as much noise as love birds but they whistle so sweet and gently and can speak once you train them daily as well.they can say small words.  Also they don't make too much of a mess like love birds can do. But lovebirds are bigger than parakeets. Based on your question and what you're looking for I would say a parakeet is best for you.

I don' know if you'll be able to find a bird that doesn't bite because birds are wild animals and like my birds they bite me sometimes not out of anger but just because they like to mess with my fingers. It doesn't hurt though. My parakeet bites but only when i start playing with him. They love to play with balls that have bells in them.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Quaker parrot. Get a baby 1 (not a pre owned 1)

Use pro to get wings clipped

  8. You're not a good candidate for any bird. You want too much and expect too much without allowing for the fact that ALL birds are different. I suggest getting a dog -- at least it'll be loyal.

  9. cockateil (sp?)

  10. Uhh, let's see. Friendliness and cuddliness depend on the individual bird--no species is guaranteed to be friendly or to want to cuddle, it doesn't work that way; people often think one species is better than another, but this is generally based on observations of individuals they happen to know personally, and birds, like people, are not all exactly alike. No matter what species you look at you always have about a 50/50 chance that a bird will be friendly or fearful, cuddly or aggressive.

The only talking birds that are commonly kept as pets are parrots, and there is no such thing as a parrot that "doesn't bite". Basically, you're looking for something that doesn't exist. There is no "perfect species" that matches your criteria. Since you have such high demands for what a pet "should" be like, perhaps you would be better off with a dog?

  11. I think your best matches would be a lovebird and a budgie (parakeet).

Lovebirds can sing, some talk, whistle, EXTREMELY friendly, just LOVE to cuddle, and I think they will be fine with tricks.  These birds love kisses, and can spend lots of time with you without getting tired or stressed.  And they are very beautiful.

Budgies are famous for talking, singing, whistling, they enjoy human company (although first months they get stressed a lot from being handled), pretty (not as pretty as lovebirds though), their bites dont hurt (they don't bite to blood), most love to cuddle and are real trick artists.  Keep in mind though, a lot depends on the personality of a budgie.  And trust me, they have quite a personality... :D

Don't clip wings if you have never done it before.  If you want to learn, make sure someone experienced is supervising you.  You can really injure your bird or cause him/hear weeks of irritation.  However, it is ok to have someone other than a vet to clip a bird's wings (as long as they know how to do it and have experience).  My friend clipped my budgie's wings, and my birdie is doing just great.

  12. a cockatiel would be the best for a first time owner but if u want one that talks then a quaker would be right for u...but actually the birds that peeps say can talk only really repeat what it hears...sunday conures are also good cuz they are sweet but it depends on the bird not the breed for the attitude...just like dogs they only act the way they were taught to act. conures are also very colorful and loved to be loved or sit on the shower top while u take one cuz they like the mist and some even like going under the shower head to get wet (bathe) even quakers.

  13. If you can't handle any biting, then you don't want a bird.  Finches and canaries are probably least likely to bite, but that's because you don't touch them anyway.  You mostly just watch them.  But any bird will bite if you get close enough when it's scared, annoyed, in a bad mood, or even just being an obnoxious teenager trying to get away with everything.  How cuddly, bitey, or willing to learn stuff a bird is also depends on that individual bird's personality, and although certain behaviors, noise levels, and temperaments are common to certain species, you have to accept your particular bird's personality.  Also, which birds you think are pretty depends on your own opinion.  I think all birds are pretty, but you might not.
