You could have a Royalty theme birthday. Get a crown, a scepter, and a robe and crown him "King" for the day. Get a birthday cake that has his name on it and have a crown frosted onto the cake.

There are adults that actually have had Royalty theme parties complete with emblems of Royalty. I have also seen Royalty theme parties mentioned in party-themes books.

a theme is so sweet. You should do one on is fsvourite film, tv show or even his fav colour. IE : blue, blue food dye on the food, blue haor blue ballon, blue everything !

Or something he likes, ie : science, star wars, space

My brother doesn't have down syndrome.....but he is mentally handicapped, he's 38 w/ the mind of a 8 year old. I suggest something to do with Disney, lots of colors and different characters seems to hold their attention a bit longer.

What is he interested in?  What does he love?  What does he talk about?  What gets him excited?

Those answers will give you ideas for a theme for his birthday party.

I'd probably go with a sports theme or car related theme.   It's something that would be appropriate for any 36 year old man and still be relatively easy to find pieces to decorate with.

I'd personally stay away from Disney themes past the age of 13!
