I am doing a ridden show with my welsh section D soon and i am not sure what bit to use.

I know generally people use double bridles and pelham.

Is it acceptable to use a hanging snalffle, normal snaffle or a wilkie snaffle???

Thanks

  1. yes it is acceptable to use both the wilkie snaffle and the normal snaffle but not the hanging snaffle

this is because it uses some poll action whereas the other 2 dont

you can use any type of the plain snaffle (eggbutt, loose ring, jointed, straightbar etc)

  2. Don't use a double or a pelham unless you actually know how to use them; they're not showring accessories, they're strong chunks of metal and they take a while to get used to.

Just use your normal snaffle. A novice class is restricted to snaffles only, and although you can use whatever you want to in an open class, if your pony goes nicely in a snaffle there is no reason not to use it.

  3. I am hoping that someone with knowledge will answer your question.  If not, I found the rule book for them - http://www.welshpony.org/newrules.htm

or you can call one of their certified judges:

http://www.welshpony.org/judgelist.htm whom will be very happy to help you.  I am a judge of other breeds and am always happy to answer questions brough by exhibitors.  I'd rather have them ask me before the show than end up in the arena with something illegal and have to disqualify them.  Don't be shy - ask the pros in your breed assocation - they really will be happy to help!
