What book is this??? i cant remenber!!!?

i read it in 7th grade. it was about a girl and her brother. all of the adults in the world died and only left the kids behide. so the girl and her brother were forced to cope on their own. they had a car to drive and they worked with their own "gang" to get food. they lived together. then there was this other kid who i think either die or got hurt at the end. sorry if this is a terrible summary but i do remenber it was a good book and want to recommend it to my little cousin
