What books/DVDs can be used to self-teach guitar?

So i want to start playing guitar (acoustic) from scratch, and i figure that a book or DVD set will help get me started.

What kinds of things have you guys used, and how well did it work?

    Buy the book "The Complete Guitar Handbook by Billboard Illustrated"

  3. i took lessons for about 2 months then quit but he pretty mmuch taught me off of a book i bought at the store. just go to any guitar/music store near you and you'll find a beginner book

  4. u should try guitar hero lol just for a little practice trust me it works

  5. i would recommend learning musical theory. it will teach you all about notes and rests and half notes and everything. you can also write songs from musi ctheory.  im learning right now. ive been playing for 4 years now and let me tell you, i should've learned music theory like the first year.

  6. there is a lot i cant even name them i suggest you go to barnes and nobles or your local Book store.
