What books about the 16th-17th Century are good?

I'm always looking for more information on the 16th and 17th century has anyone got any good books they could suggest?

  2. I hope your talking about the revolutionary war because I forgot if it was in the 17th century or not!

    One good one is one that you could get at Barnes & Nobles, "The First American Army", by Bruce Chadwick. Another one you could also get from Barnes & Nobles is "American Creation", by Joseph J. Ellis.

  3. First the 16th century was from 1500-1600.

    The 17th century was from 1600-1700.

    The 6 wives of Henry the eighth is a good historical biography.

    Lately, the Tudors have been getting press since the very popular HBO series and the Movie has been out. The other Boleyn girl is a fictional representation of the Anne Boleyn saga with Henry the eighth

    You might also read biographies of Elizabeth I, Mary queen of Scots, King James of Scotland, Henry VIII, King Louis XIV, Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, King Phillip of Spain.

    A Man for All Seasons is a play worth reading about Sir Thomas Moore.

    The crucible is another play about the time period in America.  

    Shakespearean dramas and comedies were written at this time.

    Count of Monte Cristo, Three Musketeers,  by Alexander Dumas.


  4. Well the original Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas son of one of Napoleons generals is historical fiction written in 1844. The language is hard to understand at first but you'll get into it.

  5. The Samuel Pepys Diaries are very informative and detailed as he lived through the Great Plague and The Great Fire of London. His writings are a wonderful insight into how people lived and coped during those times.
