  1. i always enjoyed the goosebumps series but they prolly dnt have those anymore?

  2. We've started reading some of the older classics together. Recently we've read Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

My daughter will be 9 next month and is in third grade, but she’s on a 4th grade reading level, and she really enjoyed those books.

  3. My 12-year-old loves to read.  Her tastes have changed quite a bit between ages 9 and 12, so you may not want to assume that your 9-year-old would enjoy the same things as an older girl, even if she's an excellent reader.

My daughter LOVED the "Little House" books when she was nine.  She also would read anything by Roald Dahl, including "Matilda," "The BFG," and "The Witches."   As she turned 10, she moved on to the Gail Carson Levine books ("Ella Enchanted," "Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep," etc.).

Now that she is 12, she is very much into Holocaust literature such as "The Cage," "The Diary of Anne Frank," and "The Devil's Arithmetic."   She also just recently read "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" and "To Kill A Mockingbird."

  4. harry potter, I used to read judy blume.

  5. Well, it took me awhile to get my now 12 year old interested in reading.  After trying several types of books the ones that she likes are the Babysitting Club books.  I used to read those all the time when I was her age.  We were at the library one day and I saw them and started reminiscing.  She checked one out and absolutely loves them.  She's also into the Chronicles of Narnia books and they read the Diary of Anne Frank in school and she enjoyed that one as well.

  6. My nine year old (3rd grade) is reading the LM Montgomery "Anne of Greene Gables" series. She also loves all the Goosebumps books, but they scare the pants off my 7 year old (2nd grade) daughter. We also read a lot of books together that are classics, like Charlotte's Web, Alice In Wonderland, ect.

  7. My daughter will be 9 in a month and is reading Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series and "George's Secret Key to the Universe" by Stephen Hawking.  She's also reading a lot of Encyclopedia Brown and Nancy Drew.

  8. Try the WARRIORS book series by Erin Hunter!  It's all about clans of kitties living in the wild!  My daughter and all her friends loved them in 5th & 6th grade.  They got started on the books because they were on the school's Accelerated Reader list, and were instantly hooked!  Even I read them, and have even given them as gifts! :)

  19. If she likes the Wrinkle in Time books, she'll probably like the His Dark Materials books by Philip Pullman: The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass, and Lyra's Oxford.  Also Harry Potter if she hasn't already read that series.

Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis.

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, E.L. Konigsburg.

The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin.

    Holes, by Louis Sachar

The ten-year-old girl I nanny is reading the first book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but she doesn't particularly like it.
