Next year i am taking algebra 1, honors chemistry, grammar and composition, psychology, fitness for life, and spanish from keystone national highschool,

i plan to get a DVM in Veterinary Medicine and i just need to prepare for the 9th grade.

I love writing and reading, i'm not to good at math and am ok in grammar.

What are some appropriate books that can help me expand my knowlage and help me prepare for highschool? (My state has no homeschool testing or record keeping laws)

Thank you

ps i am a straight A student and learn completely independant excep my mom helps me with math and grammar when i need it.

I read half of tom sayor adventures of huckleberry fin easily until my mom relized that it had bad language and made me stop reading it...

Also what are some interesting books to read in my spare time? I love animals especially cats, dogs, and horses, The Harry Potter and Eragon series are my favorite books. Any suggestions?

  1. I don't know...but I know a man who will (lol!)

Ask the librarians. They will not only know what books you might enjoy but will know what is actually available to you in their library/through inter-library loans.

Have you tried Lord of the Rings??

  2. You might really enjoy the Redwall series by Brian Jacques...it's one of my son's faves.  There are something like 19 books in the series, so there's enough to keep you going for a while, and it's extremely well-written.  It's sort of a cross between Narnia, the Hobbit, and Eragon - medieval society in western Europe, all of the characters are animals, and the stories are very fast-moving and wonderful to read.

You may also enjoy The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien.

And WOOdie...go read your MAD magazine and leave the kid alone.  You obviously know nothing about homeschooling, or you'd know that students this age are able to be independent in their studies and choose a lot of their own material.

  3. well since your mom blocks out such good books because of the language it really narrows your chances of finding a really good book. for some reason most interesting books or books that deal with tough subjects have curse words in them.

however i would recomend "the outsiders" i believe its by s.e hinten or something i could be totaly off. antother good book is "to kill a mockingbird" it drops some foul language like the n word but trust me its a wonderful book and very thought provoking. i found both of these books very interesting.

I am in grade 11 in Canada and these are books i read in grade nine and ten. i do have a book that i read just this year and i bet you would be able to understand it because of the way you write it really shows that you are a smart student. the book i read was regeneration the author again i am unsure of because i read it a couple of months ago but it has a lot of things that will make you think and some of it is based on true history. i would start with the outsiders first because its a book i read in grade nine and as you read the books get a little more complicated you can then judge as to how well you will understand them.

from your writing i believe you sound very smart. good luck with reading and good luck with becoming a vet

  4. I'd get Mad magazine. Then I'd enroll in a school where they create the curriculum because you aren't qualified to do that. Your job is to be a kid and a student. It's somebody else's job is to teach and provide guidance.

  5. Here are two sites that have extensive book lists; some are grouped by grade level, we however look at the child's reading and maturity level.

Many great literary books have some  language in it that may be objectionable from time to time, but you have to take into consideration the time period it was written in, as well as the context it was used in.

Some of the wording used was acceptable in these time  periods to describe people, and things.

I hope you, and your mother can be open to such.

Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is but one of these many great works.

These books are very different from, and can not be compared to books with plain bad, and foul language.

    Book lists.

  6. Your best bet is to go to the library and talk to the librarian! S/he will be able to narrow in on your interests, will know some of the latest books as well as classics...
