  1. D'Aulair's book of Greek Myths is a good place to start.  Edith Hamilton's Mythology is excellent.  Black Ships Before Troy by Rosemary Sutcliff is AMAZING and she also did The Wandering of Odysseus - extra bonus if you can find the ones illustrated by Alan Lee.

Bulfinch's The Age of Fable is good for a decent overview as well though I'd recommend the others before it.

There are quite a few more but those are the ones I recommend to start with.  They give you a very good overview and are entertaining as well.

  2. The bible is a great source of plagiarized greek/roman mythology.

things in common: virgin births, son of gods, resurrections, ascensions, etc...
