What books helped you teach your kids their ABCs, colors, animals and shapes?

What books did you use or what techniques? Thanks My son is 20 months old..what should he know how to do by now?

  1. You should be concentrating on language development not teaching.  Talk with him  all the time.  Tell him what color things are, what signs say, what letter something starts with.  Be very descriptive when talking with him.  Read whatever he is interested in as many times as he wants you to. Repetition an predictable books will help him learn. But some books most kids love are Anything Eric Carle, Margret Wise Brown, or Dr Seuss, also it looked like spilt milk an dChicka chicka boom boom


  2. Just about any book that shows the ABC's, shapes,etc. Make sure it has a prominent picture of the letter of the item.

    Also, use the vocabulary you would like your son to know when you talk to him, i.e look at the red ball, the book is a rectangle. They will connect it more if you use it in context than just an abstract in a book.  

    Believe me, my kindergarten class can tell me about an ellipse, rhombus, vertice and angle.
