Question:

What boxing technique (be it punch, or non punch) is the one that requires the most 'working on' ?

I ask this because I am a boxing fan, more so of the light-weight and middle-weight divisions and I was thinking that once a boxer begins to enter the semi-pro status, and he has the physical fitness at the standard required, muscles etc, he may have a great array of punches and what not - but what is the one thing, that no matter how accurate/fast a boxer is, eludes him ? and on which there is no substitute but practice/hard work ?

would it be working on defence ? counter punching ? bobbing and weaving ? what is the hardest thing to 'improve' in a boxers overall ability ? thats basically what im asking. I'd love to hear from boxing enthusiasts, ex boxers or knowledged folks of the sport.

look forward to your answers.

  1. just like any mobile sport you have got to work on your basics forever, work on using your strenghts in your game plan(its no good being able to fell a bull with a left hook or knocking a house down with a right cross and meeting an opponent only to wary of your strengths and outwitts you leaving you desperately throwing bombs missing hopelessly and losing)and even more important work on your weaknesses and you will have some, because as you progress so does the quality of your opponent and you will be exploited for your failings..work hard and it will all come together

  2. The upper cut takes a lot to get right the jab is the main weapon but most people can  learn to jab in no time. The uppercut however takes power and technical skills but land one of those and its night night

  3. my boyfriend is an ex pro boxer and he lways tells me that in order to be a good boxer you gotta have good defence-hit but dont get hit, amir khan for example can hit but he also gets hit quite a lot and in my opinion when he does get to fight someone who is actually good i think he's gonna get hurt because his defence is rubbish.

my bf not here at the min otherwise i'd ask him more for you.

  4. Improve your footwork first. All power comes from a stable base upwards!

    Good luck!
