  1. The previous poster is right. You can't join to be a sniper. You can only join to be infantry. Then you can try out to be a sniper, but only IF your Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and CO think you rate trying out. They have what's called "indoc" to see of you meet basic requirements. Then you go to a school that has a high failure rate. If you do manage to make it, you have to constantly work to be at the top of your game because the other member of your team is counting on you for his life.

The book Jarhead is a pretty interesting personal description of the whole process.

Good luck. If you want it bad enough, and you are willing to fully commit to doing it, there is nothing stopping you.

  2. The Corps, however, the USN (specifically SEALs) and the USA are also good choices. Depends on more than "I want to be a Sniper"... your best bet is to look at the Branch as a whole, and THEN decide which fits you best.

  3. what corp should you join.

    Its infantry.

  4. You don't join to be a sniper. You join to serve and if you are good enough, you can apply to Scout Sniper (Army) Recon Sniper (Marine) and if you are REALLY good, you pass. You need to start out in the infantry. Everything is a competion. Boot Camp, Infantry School, the rifle range, inspections, class room instruction, military bearing, discipline, field exercises. You want to go to sniper school, you have to earn it.

And once you get there, the failure rate is high.

  5. There are many corps, regiments in the world that have snipers. The SAS, SEALS etc. Most of them recruit from serving members of the armed services. If you apply as a civilian you have no hope.
