What brand is good for snowboarding?

Just went to snowboarding for the first time yesterday. Absolutely love it. Will now consider getting a set of snowboarding gear myself. Total nub at this, is wondering

What is a good brand to get for the board? I heard burton is a good brand.

What other spec should I be looking at beside the length?

What about brand for boot and the boot strap attached to the board?

Where is a good place to look for all these things? ebay? craigslist?

Why are some board over $300 and some board around $150?

  1. Burton is the biggest one out there, and all their stuff is pretty good quality. I really like their bindings, and I personally think they have the best line of bindings out there, but other companies have some good bindings, but maybe only 1 or 2 of them.

Length is the most important part of the Specs to look at for boards, But the width of the waist is also very important. If it is too narrow, your toes and heel may hang over the edge and cause toe and heel drag, which can cause you to lose edge on your board and instead you'll be sliding on your boots.

So width is just as important as Length.

Some other specs to look at that are not as important is the Shape of the board. Is it Directional or a Twin? The difference between these 2 is the flex pattern and the shape of the nose and the tail of the board. On a twin, both the nose and the tail should have the same flex, which is preferable if you will be riding switch. Usually regular freeride boards are directional. One side is stiffer than the other, although it can still be used in both directions, but it may be harder going one way than the other.

Setback is also another spec to look at. The stance on the boards can be moved back towards the tail to help powder floatation so you dont have to lean as much. Although you can center the board on a board with a setback by moving the front binding up a little bit more than the back one.

What you really need to look at for now is the length and the Width. The other specs are less important and will come into play when you become more advanced and prefer one over the other.

I personally prefer a Centered board with a twin shape (Twin shapes usually have centered stance). I like riding both ways and I really hate stopping on a directional board because you have to put more pressure on one leg than the other and it just gets tiring after awhile.

Boots dont have to be the same brand as your bindings, but they will probably fit better together. There are alot of companies out there that make good boots. Just make sure they fit you good and you are comfortable with them. There are companies out there that only make boots. Like DC and Vans. Just be sure to try the boots out on bindings and make sure they fit well before you get them, because you cant really follow the sizing charts from a different company.

I personally dont like shopping on ebay, and i have never tried, but if you are comfortable with that, just go to a store and try out the stuff, and look for it on ebay. Craigs list is probably not a good place to look, unless you are looking for something cheap and you are not planning on using it for a long tim, but then again, this varies from area to area.

Here is a good site to look at :http://www.skitrucks.com/shop/

Boards are made differently and some are better than others.

Usually the more expensive ones are because they have more tech. If you get a good pair of boots and bindings that fit you comfortably, i dont think the board matters much except for the amount of flex you prefer. Alot of choosing snowboard gear is preference. Usually ( on all 3 things, board, boots, and bindings) have different amounts of stiffness and softness)

Burton boards are overpriced a bit. There are other companies out there. Ride, Forum, Rome, Palmer, Arbor, etc.

  2. Oh h**l yeah finally someone else who is sick of the whole burton thing.

Yeah, there's burton, and they make very good boards for sure.

There's also brands like Rome, Ride, K2, Saolomon makes some too.

Burton boards are very good, but Rome and Ride are every bit as good as them.  Thirty-two are good bindings that i would go for.  Try this website too http://www.skitrucks.com/shop/category.a...

They dont have the biggest online snowboard selection but they're got some decent stuff there that would e good for beginners like you.

  3. Alright

maybe you should snowboard some more before you are really sure if you like it.

Burton has some good boards and bindings, but burton is not the only company. Many beginners think there is only burton out there and everything must be burton. Go to a local snowboard shop near you  and they can help you with sizing. I recommend 32 boots. (the brand is thirtytwo)  The nice boards are around $300- even $700 dollers. But before you know what kind of riding you want to do you might want to get a cheap or used board and bindings or rent. Good luck and have fun out there. =D

  4. alright theres no one best board company and shes right beginners think every thing must be burton.

however, if there is any one company that you can argue makes the best, it would be burton. i ride burton board boots and bindings and they all work great for me.  here are some great companies besides burton

    Rome

    forum

    ride

    nirto

    k2

If im you i'm going to suggest the forum recon, great beginner board. if not that step up a level to the burton clash which is probably the best board for the price.

If your not looking for a cheaper board, go for a Rome agent, burton custom or a forum destroyer. all very good, similar boards.  they are going to be amazing on the mountain and pretty good for the park which u will definitely want to do when you progress.  they will also last you longer than say the clash (ive got one, great board, but i'm probably going to upgrade in  a season or two cause i want a board more geard toward park)
