What brand of car battery is good, but cheap and where is a good place to purchase them?

walmart's "everstart" batteries are a pretty good value for the $$$.

any brand you see in auto zone, pep boys, western auto etc.

Wal Mart, get the cheap brand. I don't remeber how much but I priced around and they were cheapest. You don't need some expensive battery. Cheap ones last almost as long and do what they are supposed to, start your car.
