My old vet sold Science Diet and only Science Diet.

My new vet sells Canidae and Royal Canin.

Just curious. I don't need to know which one is better than the other one. My dogs eat a very good quality food. I have no intentions of switching them.

Part B of the question:

Have you ever asked your vet what brand of food they feed their own pets?

  1. My vet sells Science Diet and Royal Canin.

No idea what he feeds to his own dogs.

I usually avoid bring up dog food with my vet. He doesn't really know about the better brands. When I first got my dog, I was feeding Chicken Soup brand dog food, and he thought I meant actual cans of Campbells chicken noodle soup!

He gave me a free (well, "free" with the puppy wellness exam cost) 5 pound bag of Science Diet; which I promptly donated to the shelter.

Other than the foods he recommends, he's a great vet though.

    .

  2. Science Diet and maybe Royal Canin.  Can't clearly recall the 2nd line.

And no, I haven't asked my vet this question.

However, since I saw this mentioned once today I did consider asking.  FTM, I got to wondering if my other vet even has a dog and if he does, what breed.

It really doesn't matter what my vet feeds his dog.  My dogs are doing well with the food they eat and that's really all that matters.

BTW, cute pup.  Flat coated retriever?  How old?  I understand they're slow to mature.

  3. I think my vet does Science Diet but I feed Eagle Pack Holistic because I know what they recommend isnt that great

  4. At the vet hospital I work at we sell science diet, hills prescription diet, purina, IVD, Royal Cainin.

Our vets- feed science diet to their pets

  5. Never asked...I dont like my Vet and I feed a very good quality food, same as you ;)...I like your new vet selling those foods!!

  6. mine eats royal canin,it also sells eukanuba, hills, but they also sell pedigree and that food that my vet doesant recommend and i dont buy.my cousin vet aint got a pet, but she vvill buy boxer soon, and she will feed him royal o hills for sure.

  7. my office sells science diet iams and eukanuba. the vet feeds science diet.

  8. SD, Purina and iVet.

Never asked what the vet feeds though.

  9. My vets sell Science Diet.

Never thought to ask him what he feeds, I know he's got a Lab, and the dermatologist that Milly sees has got a chocolate Lab.

  10. We sell science diet in regular foods but have Royal Canin, Purina, Eukanuba/Iams, IVD and Science Diet in prescription formulas.  One of our Dr's feeds nutro and another feeds science diet L/D.

I think there are lots of good foods so it is a matter of finding one that is good for your dog.

  11. Science Diet and Royal Canin.  I never even thought about asking my vet what food they use for their pet.  All I know is the last time the vet asked me, i told her Merrick.  The vet tech knew what it was, but the vet never heard of it.  I'll bet I can guess why.

  12. I have multiple vets for my dogs so one sells pro plan, the other science diet and the third one, I am unsure because I was there only once and it was for a guinea pig.

I am unsure of what they feed their pets, but one of them probably feeds good food because she recommended going to a pet boutique instead of buying the food in the office during the menu foods recall.

The one that sells science diet tried to put my dog on it. That didnt go to well, but he doesnt know we feed raw.

  13. My vet office sells this presciption food, and I don't remember exactly what "brand" it is, but it's nothing you'd find on shelves anywhere.  I have never asked what he feeds, but I'll be there today!

  14. royal canin

  15. Purina Pro Plan and Science Diet.

My vet said he feeds his own dogs Pro Plan, but  I'm not convinced he didn't have something crossed when he was giving me this information.

  16. Well,,,,What I do is read the ingredients.  innova brand has a really neat website that explains to you what all the ingredients are for.  It was very educational.  Dogs and Cats are carnivores, so if the first ingredient is corn, don't buy it.  THe more meat and veggies the better, but it will cost you.  Determine how much you can afford and buy the food with the most meat.  OR---suppliment some at home...make some extra eggs or  chicken and give it to the dogs, or a few lettuce leaves from your salad....

  17. Vet sells Hills Science Diet. Vet recommend I feed Raw and supplement since that was what I was familiar and comfortable with.

  18. Besides the prescription diets, my vet sells Orijen and the Health Powder as per the recipe in Dr. Pitcairn's book for those who make their own dog food.
