Question:

What brand of menstrual cup is better?

I live in the UK and am sick of tampons and sanitary towels. I heard recently of menstrual cups and really want to try them.

After doing some research I found the two best looking brands are Mooncup and Femmecup. Mooncup is £20.00 but has a better site and looks easy. Femmecup is cheaper at £15.00 but doesn't look as impressive. I want to go with the Mooncup because it looks more reliable but I'm having trouble with money right now and just want a second opinion.

I wouldn't mind trying the Femmcup but I would like a review or something from someone who's used it.

Has anyone used either one of these brands and which one seems better to try as a first time user? Could you tell me also if it's working for you and if it's going well?

Any answers will be appreciated.

  1. youtube it and you will see demos of each, and decide from there!

  2. I would personally recommend Mooncup – note the UK Mooncup http://www.mooncup.co.uk rather than the US brand Mooncup http://www.mooncup.com – it seems like a small point to make but there is a big difference in that the latter is owned by Keeper who has a poor record when it comes to marketin,g and terrible customer service. Mooncup are a bigger more established brand so for one it means you can buy them from Boots stores, which is handy, I know they have a money back guarantee where as last I talked to them Femmecup didn’t, and it also means you could possibly try looking online, specifically on sites like eBay for cheaper deals.

I use Mooncup, I don’t have a Femmecup, I still love it after 5 years of it dealing with my super-heavy flow – to put this into perspective I would use super-plus tampons and night time pads but still leak through after 15 minutes, now my period is heavier, furthermore using tampons and pads gave me constant vaginal infections, menstrual cup has meant no leaking and no nasty infections dueing my time using it.

They are both the same in my opinion for a first time user, not much difference at all, if you are often the age of, oh say 18+, then they are fine – younger I’d recommend Ladycup as they are smaller and softer than all the other brands, but Mooncup and Femmecup are both softer and smaller than Divacup or Lunette which is why I tend to recommend them as they are a nice middle-ground.

Really your best bet is to go to the menstrual cup support community http://www.menstrualcups.org which is the one-stop-shop for all menstrual cup questions, in their memories section you will see many useful posts from comparisons, which will of course be useful to you and this question, through to first time experiences, different folding methods and other useful information.
