  1. There is a French Red Rose', called Red Bicyclette.  It's really good.

  2. Although I have never tried it, I hear that Lambrusco is a sweet, slightly carbonated red wine.

  3. Mogan David and Manischevitz have sweet red wines.  But, otherwise, the sweetness of the wine depends on the grapes that are used - not on the winery.  Try a California Pinot Noir or Beaujolais (sp?) - maybe Mondavi

  4. any Cabernet Merlot (Australian) is great.

    a little sweet with a pleasant after-taste.

  5. Chianti has a bit of sweetness too it and is not too bitter.

Pinot Noir is also not too bad in that regard.

Cabernet Savignon and Merlot are bitter though.

  6. I prefer a quality port for sweetness. Yummy stuff, loaded with nutrients. And it's not just for breakfast anymore. But sometimes pricey. Balance it with dark chocolate.

Pinot Noir is really interesting, but you've got to pick the bottle carefully.

Branding can be dangerous. The best wine comes from a local winery, where you can actually taste the wine that you will then buy (fortunately I am surrounded by such places) and although many mass-marketed brands are available elsewhere, they are a mixed bag.

Here's a hint: when drinking a strong red wine that is you think is bitter,  follow it with a bite of sharp cheddar cheese. It takes away the bite, and the two combine very nicely into a good taste experience. A good cheese will mellow out even the harshest of cheap burgundy. This simple trick will help you enjoy any red wine, regardless of sweetness. (Supposedly, the combination of cheese and wine is good for biological insulin production, too, but that's out of my league.)

The search for a wine you enjoy is always worth it. Have a blast. Now, go fourth, and discover...
