  1. Get like a k2 or Burton if you want. I got the K2 illusion it's great for beginner-intermediate riders and i know you said that price is not an issue but it's a pretty good deal, and you can buy other snowboarding equipment with the extra money like goggles and a helmet. The general guideline is a snowboard should come up to your chin when you stand it up.

  2. Once you leave the general sports store and enter a board shop it really doesn't matter what board you buy.  Everyone here may be shouting "Burton" but that's mostly blind devotion.  Just because Burton was a pioneer in snowboarding doesn't mean that that company is the only good company, there are tons of innovators in the field these days.

Forum, Lib Tech, Gnu, Option, Ride... There are so many good board companies out there these days.

If you're 5' tall you're probably still growing and it's not worth breaking the bank on the best board around since you'll probably grow out of it in a season or two.  Also since you're a beginner rider you don't need to spend phat cash on a board that you'll grow out of skills-wise in a weason or two.

Go to a board shop and get them to assess you.  They'll probably give you a deck about nose height so that you can ride it for longer (because it's taller than average and you'll grow through it).

  3. Any decent company will be fine. (Burton, M3,  lib tech, k2, ride, technine, rossignol, etc)

Stay away from company's like (Morrow, Salomon, and Flow)

Your other equiptment is just as important as the board itself.

Bindings, and Boots. For bindings, I would suggest Technine, ride, or Burton (high end products). As for boots, 32(thirtytwo).

Don't cheap out on the bindings or boots.

Size wise, i'd say anywhere from 145-150.

  4. The board should be in between your nose and your chin. um get a mini k2 zepplelin if i were you, thats what i started on. Its top of the line and an all around board. Nobody wants to ride just powder or just park. Other good brands are Burton, Ride, Sims, Batalion (sweet board), flow (for bindings), and rome. For bindings just get light aluminum bindings w/ fiberglass. Plastic is for toys.

  5. I ride Santa Cruz.

  6. Burton isn't the best, just the best marketed.  Lib tech and gnu (mervin manufacturing are awesome) burton is great once you get out of their introductory line, meaning a custom or better....which = $$$

but to correct the moron 2 answers above me, burton bindings are not the only bindings that work on burton board, yes burton uses a 3 hole pattern instead of 4 (universal) but call any binding manufacturer and they will send you the 3 hole baseplates,  i have a burton custom w/forum bindings.  drake also has a 5 hole base plate that will work w/burton right off the bat, so u can get a burton and get any pair of bindings you want.

god, do the people who answer these questions really ride or just a bunch of posers?

ps.  don't get a board from a company that makes skis, and don't get a board that's made in china.... make sure u know about the board before u buy it...where it's from, that's why lib tech and gnu are the best, made in seattle by snowboarders. i have a burton custom and a lib tech, i love them both equally....

  7. Burton, although you don't need one if you're just starting out.  K2, Lib-Tech, Nitro, and to toss some others in Ride, Rossignol, Salomon, and maybe Rome, although Rome might not be something you may want just yet.  They're better known for park.

I'd say k2, although Lib-Tech's stuff with their magne-traction is pretty sick, and their boards are pretty good.  If you're on the east coast, I'd probably recommend a Lib-Tech with magne-traction.  5 ft...uh...probably around a 140 or less.  How much do you weigh?  If you're average, it should come between your nose and chin.

Don't get Flows.  Burton's or Rides.

EDIT:  Just because you're a skier and post negative comments on the snowboarding section doesn't make you cool!!!

  8. NOT BURTON

  9. definately burton

  10. I have a burton, but there pretty expensive, theres alot of companies, just go to rei or like some outdoor store to get one and ask them, my friends wanted some wierd off brand that just came out i forget what its called though, but dont buy any c**p boards.

  11. Most snowboard brands these days are good and if you buy a board from a proper snowboard shop you can be guarenteed a good quality board. What you need to concentrate more at this stage is getting the right board for you rather than worrying about brands. As a begineer rider you need an entry level board that will be easy to ride and learn on, some good ones to check out are Gnu Carbon High Beam, Nitro Revolt, K2 Select, Burton Clash, Forum Recon. Good luck with the riding.

  12. WHOEVER SAYS BURTON IS DUMB!!!!!! BURTON IS 100% BRAND NAME!!!!! sorry to everyone who is in love with them i love the company but they are so overpriced its not even funny.... the '08 Rome Flag is the Custom X but romes version of it and its $100 cheaper... personally i think it rides better but thats just me... im gonna have to say go witht he ROME FLAG

  13. hah lol defidently Volcom!!!i just baught their new boards, and their hawt!lol so how old r u??

  14. Burton is definitely the way to go. All their boards have great designs and are well-made.

Size-wise, you are generally supposed to get a board that is up to the bridge of your nose when you stand it up next to you.

If you are a downhill boarder, you shold go with the nose thing. If you do more jumps and things, you may want to go shorter.

  15. its not that burtons are bad- theyr good boards, just over rated. people think theyare the best because the name- there is lots of other good brands.

    forum or ride

  16. Lib.-Tech. and Gnu are the best brands right now.  Burton sucks.

  17. Rome, Ride, Sapient, Option, Nitro, Lib Tech, Gnu...  There are so many great boards out there!  So many boards, so little time.

To comment on the other posts, there are many people who are sold on Burton's marketing.  They are big and many people don't look beyond that.  There is also a huge anti-Burton sentiment among snowboarders (particularly park riders).  Personally, I am an advanced rider and just can't afford the over-priced top of the line Burton stuff.  Snowboarding culture was derived from skate and surf culture - both of which encourage individual expression.  so, as a result many snowboarders go against the the grain and seek out smaller board makers with great product.  Let the blind masses buy the Burton, go find yourself a sweet deck from someone else and save yourself a few dollars in the process.

As for size.  Have the board come up to your chin for freestyle or a bit higher (just under your nose) for freeride.

  18. forum, ride and rome are the best

burton is good except only burton binding work on them

  19. Burton is good, but I wouldn't get it if I were just starting. So just find some other good brands from what some people are saying. And that person whoever is writing down DON'T SNOWBOARD, SKI BECAUSE IT IS COOLER. Don't believe him. He is just a JACK@$$

  20. lets see..... DON"T SNOWBOARD........ SKI,  JUST BECAUSE YOU SNOWBOARD DOESN'T MAKE YOU COOL!!!!!!!!

  21. No rosingnol has the best snowboards. I ride an Alias. and it is great for both backcountry and the park. Burton is only good if you do one or the other.  Since I switched to Rosingnol, I have beat my brother ( who was on skis)  down a slope, and landed table tops with ten foot bigger gaps
