I feed Wellness to my little foster kittens.

FOR adult kitties:

My two are eating Iams dry food and the vet says they need wet food also. What kind of wet food do you think would be good? Shoud I stick with one flavor of one brand or switch it around? Is Iams wet food top quality?

Thank you!!! I just want to make sure that I get the best food for them. They are seven and two.

  1. well my kitten eats either friskies or purina dry food and either friskies or meow mix wet food. i would reccomend u stop feeding them iams becuz i kno many ppl that feed their cat that once and the cat died the next say :( so i wouldnt want that to happen to ur kittens

  2. Vet recommended: Fancy Feast or Friskies canned food.

  3. Science Diet

  4. I use Purina PRO PLAN dry and wet food

  5. WHAT!?! NOOO! Cats NEED dry food! Too much wet food can cause tooth decay and diarrhea.  The brand I buy for my cat is called INNOVA. it's really good because not only does it have meat, but it has fruits and veggies as well. Iams dry isn't bad either, but i strongly suggest Innova, it's not too expensive and it's an amazing brand. Innova also makes wet food which is really good. What I do is leave a bowl of dry food for my cat at all times and give her about a forkfull or two of wet food twice a week. That's how I've always fed her and she's perfectly fine :)

  6. First off, ignore the first answer completely, Dry food is the most nutritious of all the forms.

Secondly, Iams is not a good food brand at all, its considered a grocery brand. Any food that the first 5 ingredients include some form of corn is a grocery brand. Animals can not fully digest corn and its a filler. Wellness is a really good food and you should think about switching your cats over to it or another food that is as good as it like.. Halo, Natural Balance, Nutro, Eukanuba, or even Orgarix.

I work at a Petco and we carry these brands and more. Head out to your local pet store and ask around, they should recommend some good foods to you. Just check the ingredients before buying.

    Good luck

  7. Having lost two of my kitties to kidney failure due to the cat food crises last year. I literally stopped all commercial products for my remaining cat..I cooked fruits, veggies and chicken for him. Earlier this year I started mixing Halo, spotties stew in with the home cooked I have since reduced what I cook and use it with a little added chicken.  My cat is healthy and happy on his new diet.  I am less tired as well. I personally will not stop the added chicken as in the event something happens to either the canned product or the chicken I can easily eliminate it without upsetting my cats diet that much.

  8. That's exactly what I feed my kitty,Iams wet and dry.

(all that info above is fine but my cat is 18 years old and she has been eating both dry and wet food all these years and is still as healthy as ever)

  9. i would stay away from iams.  full of empty carbs, gluten and corn.  if you are feeding wellness to your foster kitties, why aren't you feeding it you your cats?  it's a premium natural food.  you should be feeding it to all of them!  stick with wellness all around for wet and dry food.

  10. I recommend that you do not allow dry foo within 5 miles of your house

For wet, i will give you the info to look and you can pick the brands

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms

The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process.  Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in

Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all.    The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all.

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies  whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp...

    Please read about cat nutrition.

Vetinarian diets  The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza.  http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04...
