I want to knit an Aran sweater pattern for my child. But I don't want to go to all that work and only have it worn 3 times before it looks too shabby to wear in public again. What brand of wool have you found to be the one that holds up the best?

  1. Pure wool is the best. Lion Brand has Wool-Ease which is easier to launder. Go to their website and find out.

  2. I was reading an article recently about knitting with wool and they cautioned using any type of wool that is fuzzy or textured. The yarn should be smooth. Fuzzy yarns are harder to gauge and size because of the fuzz. Any well known brand is good.

  3. Wool?? or Yarn?? For less expensive yarn I like the Red Heart brand. For the more expensive and pure wool, I like Bernat.

I have made my own wool yarns for the past 10 years so haven't much experience with the newer things like Lion Brand or any of those.

The most important thing to be aware of is the laundring of the garment after it has been finished. If it isn't laundered properly it will look like trash no matter which yarns or the cost of them. Always follow the suggested laundering instructions on the yarn label.
