  1. Yeah I'd go for the heavier strings

Dropping the tuning creates a slackness in the strings, meaning your gunna need larger strings to compensate.

I generally use Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings for mine, and I downtune my guitar a helluva lot. I think it's in like dropped C# at the moment and the strings always seem to handle anything I throw at them in any tuning.

  2. Kinda depends on how you want to change your sound...

Do you want Heavy throughout, Light throughout, or the same set up and just a new brand?

My personally like to be spot on, with all of my notes and only bend if I truly mean to. Therefore, I would go heavy throughout. Anyways I would check out Dean Markley's Blue Steel strings; great tone, great life. About $5 a pack.

Here's a link that shows you all of the sizes for those strings, FYI - I personally play a lot of drop D and go Med, but I have a guitar in Straight D that I put Jazz strings on.

    Hope this helps!

  3. personally... i like my Fender Electric Stings...

    they are soft.

    they are durable.

they are fender, so you know they will sound sweet.

that would be my choice everytime.
