Question:

What brand/type of pool cue is best as a gift?

I would like to buy my girlfriend's father a nice pool cue for the holidays. He plays in a league, so he would get good use out of it. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about pool cues. I also do not know what type of cue he prefers using (fluid, solid, etc.).

Can anyone recommend a good, all-around pool cue? I'm looking to buy him a nice pool cue in the $50 to $100 range.

Thanks!

  1. strike up a conversation sometime with him about pool, and talk about what heaviness stick he perfers, and tell him, what you perfer, just to make it not obvious. but how many ounces could definitelly, mean the difference if he likes it or not. i know ill get boo'd on this, by naysayers, but a cuetec has a very solid hit, and would make a great present, for a league player! any questions, just email me.

  2. Cuetec has really nice cues, that are reasonably priced.

    Check out these links

    www.billiardwarehouse.com/cues/recomme...

    http://www.cuetec.com/

  3. Johnny has a point I know I bought him 2 of them

  4. I have one from Busch Grens that says Budweiser on it. It is my favorite. There are so many styles and types out there, find one that is fun and fits his personality.

  5. Check this website out!  It allows you to search by price range.  You may find exactly what you are looking for!

  6. How about a gift cert. and a ride to the billiard supply store

I have a few gifts hanging on my wall the thought was there but the stick wasnt

In that range prob a players or J&J  I would use a cue-tec to hold a door open

  7. You should definitely ask him about what kind of equipment he already has.  Chances are that he may not really need a new cue.  I know if I got one as a gift, bless the heart of the giver, I would never use it because I can't get better then the one I shoot with now.  So maybe look into a nice pool case like instroke, or other things like an ultimate tip tool, chalk holder, maybe videos or books.  Just because it is hard to get a good quality cue for $100.  And the other reason stated above.  Good luck, perhaps shoot a few games with the guy =)

  8. Do NOT buy a Cuetec! 99% of good players hate them, and he will too if he's at all serious about the game.

Probably the best "bang for the buck" cue is a Shmelke sneaky pete. A 'sneaky pete' is a 2 piece cue that looks like a one piece house cue when put together. You can find this cue for around $100, just google them.

I'd also recommend the the McDermott Competitor series for about $120. McDermott makes a fine cue in that price range, and even warranties the shaft against warpage.

Although I have never used one, I know several people who play Fury cues, and like them a lot. They should have something in your price range.

Although not my favorite, Players cues are decent in that price range as well. I'd only consider them if you really don't like the other cues I have listed.
