Question:

What breast pump would you recommend?

I'm trying to decide on a breast pump - I have two I am trying to decide on.

Lansinoh Double Electric Breast Pump - which is $159.99

or

Medela Pump In Style - $279.99

I was wondering if the Medela is worth the extra $120? I've heard they are great but I don't know if I could afford that. The reviews on the Lansinoh are great too.

Any opinions on either?

  1. I would suggest renting a medela.  You can get one for cheap thru the hospital, unless you're planning on more kids soon.  I rented the medela and it was great

  2. Once your milk production is established (4-6 weeks or so), I found the hand pump (Avent ISIS) to be more powerful and better for me. I got more milk from hand pumping. Its also much cheaper. Temporarily for the first 6 weeks, I rented a Medela automatic pump which was pretty decent, but I am glad I did not buy it. I did not need it after.

  3. I have heard good things about Medela, but I love my Ameda Purely Yours!  My twin has tried both and prefers the Ameda one... She used Medela as a loaner from the hospital for two weeks.

(Ameda is cheaper too... You can get everything you need for around $150 to $175.)

  4. i went to a breastfeeding class offered by our local lactation consultant and she recommends either the medela or ameda brands. she said the lansinoh is made by one of those two companies but isn't as good of a quality, it has no special features and is just a basic unit. it would be fine if it's one that you will just use every once in a while but if you are going to use a pump daily (for returning to work) you should go with either the medela or ameda.

i am going to buy the medela freestyle which is one of the more expensive ones but she said that it's pump strength is one of the best and it is the closest to hospital grade that you can get without actually buying hospital grade ($2,000) pump.

here is her website if you want to read a little bit about it

  5. i WOULD GO WITH THE Medela Pump In Style I rented a hospital grade Medela pump.  It was $90 a month, ( the pump was worth $2000) and it seem to work just fine.

  6. i bought the medela pump 279.99.........i honestly dont think its worth it being a stay at home mom. with my first one i didnt use the pump at all i just breast fed. with my second one i thought i spent all this money on a pump then i better use it, so im pumping. i think the money is all for the bottles, tubing, carrying case and things you put your b***s in because the electric suction thing is little. it is nice because it electric and it has different setting and you cand pump from both b*****s. but if could do it over i wouldnt have spent that much.

  8. i got the medela swing., only does one at a time but i really found it worked ... better than the mini electric by medela... that was just so loud

  9. Medela!!! Their pumps are wonderful!!! Thats what I used, however if you want to save some money go with the other one. I am sure it works just fine.

  10. i have the medela pump in style and it is a great pump.  are you going to be pumping a lot?  if so, go for a good pump.

i don't know anything about the other one so i can't compare.

  11. Its SO worth it. I love mine!

  12. i would say the medela! i got a singel hand pump for only $25 and i love it
