She is fairly fast for a 13.2hh horse and she has great agility. Ok endurance. Ok conformation. Buckskin coloring. 14 years old. Guesses are fine, but I'd appreciate someone who knows horses saying the reasoning why they think its a certain breed. She's a mutt obviously, but I was thinking she might have quarter horse in her and she might also have mustang in her. There is a freeze brand on her left hind leg that I can't make out what it said. It's been there since I bought her. Gets a nice winter coat and her mane is a little puffy.

  1. i would say maybe one of her parents was a quarter/mustang and the other was an arab or a welsh. she defiantly either got either arab or mustang in her, or maybe morgan. but either way one of her parents had a very stylish horse such as a morgan.

  2. I've been tossing up in my head and dont really have any idea probably quarter horse X. BUT she is definetly not a welsh she doesn't have any part of her welsh.

  3. My sister has a mare that has the similar body type. Her mare is 1/2 Morgan & 1/2 quarter.

  4. She LOOKS like an appendix, but her height doesn't make sense for that.  so definately a Quarter Horse Cross.   Maybe a Quarter Pony/Welsh Cob.

Thats what her appearnces say to me./

  5. i think mustang is a fair guess here. she doesnt look quarter type to me... she's too lightly built. i think she's pretty high % mustang. she's not a bad looking horse overall, but has many mustang traits (like her overall body build, short, thick neck, upright pasturns, and head shape)

  6. Hey There,

To me she looks like she may be a quarter horse mustang cross. Don't kid yourself I have seen some really small quarter horse ponies. :-) The thing is her head gives off a real mustang type of look but her body does show signs of the quarter horse. My best general guess would be a cross between the two. Looking at her head only you would think for sure that she is a mustang but she does not show all the signs of being a purebred. I think you hit it yourself by saying the quarter horse and mustang so I agree with you. She is a pretty little girl. Have fun with her. Regarding the brand its probably just an old farm brand from somewhere.

  7. I agree that she looks at least a hand taller than 13.2.  I have a Dun Paso Fino that looks smaller and he is supposed to be 14.2.  Plus if she is less than that she is technically a pony, right?  Or is that at 12 hands?

I think there is a possibility that she has some quarter horse in her. She has a nice thick chest that shows some muscle.  The fact that quarter horses are a popular breed makes the chances of her having quarter horse in her higher.  The less populous breeds lesson the chance, though not out of the question.  I mean she could be part Kiger Mustang.  That would possibly explain her color.  Although she doesn't have a dun stripe and the "whole buckskin versus dun" gene thing would not fly with that.  The fluffy hair and short stature could be attributed to a Morgan.  I don't know that they come in the buckskin color though...yet.    I wouldn't rule out quarter horse.  Possibly a Morgan/cross or ever Kiger. Overall I think she has brilliant coloring.  Her conformation is nice and she looks like a great horse.  I wish my Paso had that conformation.

You look like the grim reaper.  Scary!

  8. Could be registered as a Buckskin

  9. I'm not sure she is a quarter horse...she looks like one of the mountain breeds I've seen but I can't remember the name of the breed.  I'd search for information on those breeds and see what you come up with.  she is really beautiful...nice conformation.

  10. She obviously is a cross but she definatly has a quarter horse in her somewhere she has a big bum and muscly chest area, maybe a stockhorse cross, they are most common, and because of her height because most stock horses are 14hh and smaller. there are tall ones though like 15hh+ i know that.

EDIT: i recken she is a stockhorseXquarter horse, her face looks like a stockhorse, to not go into details ur horse is SO gorgous i ♥ buckskins. sad to hear about ligament hope she gets better.

  11. she does look a lot like a mustang

  12. She kinda reminds me of my mustang/QH cross Buddy.  Not too big, but muscular enough to get the job done.   He had a thick fuzzy mane and tail that were just to die for, but harder than h**l to keep groomed.  SHe has a nice flat forehead from what I can see, nice muscling like a lean QH or a nicely mature smaller Mustang, and she looks like she has a bit of feathering on her fetlock which is common to Mustangs (I know mine had quite a bit more hair around his fetlock than either of my Paints did).

  13. I would say that you were right about mustang quarter horse cross. Mustangs are typically smaller and stocky like her build, and a quarter horse also has the stocky sturdy look. She also has the quarter horse hind and coloring. Buckskin coloring usually isn't in many breeds, but quarter horse and mustang are probably the breeds it shows up most in too! Hope this was to some help in finding out your ponies breed.

  14. What difference does it make?  Would you love her any differently?  You will NEVER know for sure, so why make a big deal about it.  Also, why did you black out the rider - is he really ugly?

  15. i think it's hard to say she looks like a mustang even though i do agree there is some in her just because a mustang usually varies in color/shape/size and everything. she definitely has quarter horse in her too.. whatever she is, she's really pretty :)

  16. I don't know how anyone could look at that pic and not see A QUARTER HORSE.

NO Arab or welsh pony for sure.  Mustang is possible because they can look like anything but i think she's a quarter. She sure looks taller than 13.2 too.

  17. I'd say she is a quarter horse cross. Could be a quarter/welsh because of her size.

  18. Na no quarter horse there i'm afraid. Pretty sure there's a bit of mustang in there. Its quite hard to tell... i can see mustang but for some reason i see a tiny bit of dartmoor/exmoor... maybie even welsh. But i mean a small small part of her. Thats probably why shes small. She has a huge variety in there. A bit of everything. Shes well structured leading me to think theres a TAD of cob..? I mean small. But yeah the mustang really stands out. Shes a beaut. I'd say half mustang and a little bit mountain and a teeny bit cob (which would give her that muscle and strong build).

  19. I would say definetely one of her parents was a welsh/arab and the other one was quarter pony.

  20. I'm going to say Quarter Horse x Arabian.
