What breed do you think my pony is??

Hi all,

This is my pony "Sunshine." She is a sweety pie in every way. Super quiet (sometimes lazy) and very friendly. I have had her now for about 2 months. I got her from an old lady who was unsure of her breed. She is aprx 17 years old, chestnut mare. She is 14hh with a small build, she is quite shaggy at the moment but slowly losing her winter coat. She has a short head and very big ears. I am thinking she has a bit of welsh pony in her but am not 100% sure.

Have a look at the photo's and let me know what you think...any insight would be appreciated. Cheers. :-)

  1. she looks really cute but sorry dont know =(

    Have a great summer

  2. Not sure on the breed (small quarter horse/connamera cross maybe...?) by you win my award for most dangerous 'horse iteams' to have on or around a horse. Congrats!

  3. She looks so cute! Her rounded face and nose kindof make me think welsh pony. Or welsh cob...but I'm not sure

  4. well no matter how quiet she is, most of those pics show very dangerous actions. especially unheld next to a road with all her gear on. just because she's quiet doesn't mean she's not going to do anything.

she's welshy or aussie pony cross

  5. possibly part QH

  6. hard to tell since there were no full side pictures. I am guessing she is a cross of something.

  7. I have no idea, but I wanted to say that she certainly does NOT look too skinny.  The problem is that most people's horses are too fat so they have this skewed view of fat horses being normal and fit horses being too skinny.  So don't listen to them.

And if you guys are so upset about how "dangerous" these pictures are, how do you ever get anything done with your horses?  Have you never taught your horse to drag a lead or a rope just so that it DOESN'T completely freak if it ever gets in that situation?  And I hardly think any of you could keep your horse from trying to eat that grass while you step back to take a photo.  It's not like she just turned her out to graze with all her tack and her bridle on and such.  A few bites of grass with a bit in her mouth ain't gonna kill her...geez.

  8. If she didn't have the white on her face she could be my pony Rosie's twin, Rosie was being sent to the slaughterhouse and I took her in : ) So any insite on what breed she may be would be great : ) My sister has rode mine a few times, but she needs mega work.

  9. she looks rather QH ey, but i have to ask...

    1) why is she grazing with a bit in her mouth?

    2) why have you allowed the martingale to slide down her neck?

and 3) where on earth did you find purple and pink tack?

  10. maybe a Quarter Pony x Welsh

  11. Honestly, you can never really know for sure until you look at her bloodline, (mom, dad, etc.) I`ve seen appaloosas and paints that look like Sunshine. Sorry I couldn`t tell you, she`s a beautiful horse though!

  12. hard to tell. but she looks really skinny

  13. I dont know but she looks kinda skinny

  14. Looking at the first photo from the rear end, she looks like she has quarter horse in her, she has large shoulders and a wide chest. Hard to say though as there are many horses out there that look like one breed and are totally another. But my guess would be Quarter cross stockhorse.

  15. first of all, I would like to answer your question, not put you down b/c of the whole bridle/lead rope thing...I wish people would read and answer the question asked!

your pony is very cute! I don't think she is skinny, but I do think she is a Quarter Pony (that's a full blooded QH with short legs making it pony sized) they usually have the full size head/ears and hips of a QH. but that is my guess.

  16. katie needs to get a reality check and back the h**l away. I've seen MUCH more dangerous stunts done on/around horses, that were FAR more harmful than a lunge line and a loose martingale...

As for your question, I'd say welsh is probably, but not prominant. She looks very QHy, maybe some Quarter Pony in there? Conemara is also very probable. More than anything, she is probably just a mix of several smaller breeds.

  17. Hard to say what breed.   i don't see the Welsh perhaps a cross.   But I too must say something about her grazing not only with the a bridle on but with a flash??  How could she even chew?,   And watch out for the lead rope (or is it a lunge line) too..it shouldn't be between her legs if she was to spook and run and step on it or get tangeled up in it...something to think about...you never know.  Better to be safe than sorry.

She looks like one spoiled pony with quite a colorful wardrobe!!

    Enjoy her!!

  18. There does seem to be a few up-tight folks on here tonight.

I think she is a pony in a horse suit. She doesn't have any pony looking traits. She looks just like a big'ol horse.

She looks like she's in good weight too. You didn't say where your from, so it's hard to say what her breeding might be.

If you like pink and purple then you should put those colors on your horse and be proud of it. I think "Bing-Bling" tack is stupid, but a lot of people like it. To each there own.
