I found a feral cat on the street about a year and a half ago, and I'm interested in what kind of cat he may be. He's has a very long torso and tail but his head is small. He has some gray under his fur and he is 24 pounds as of Monday when we took him to the vet.

  1. beautiful cat. he looks like norwegian forrest cat a bit.

  2. Main coon. due to the size and long hair

  3. A very lovely feline, indeed! He kind of looks like my Orion! As for breed, I doubt that he is a full-fledged pedigree. Definitely has some sort of longhair blood in him, though. My best guess is that he has either some Maine Coon or Siberian ancestry, or perhaps both due to his size, face structure, and coat. Daddy was probably a travelin' man.

  4. What a pretty cat!

It looks like your cat may be part Maine Coon, or Persian, with an undercoat like that he may be a black-smoke. I lean toward Maine Coon because they are very large, hefty cats, and your cat doesn't appear to be obese from your photos.

This cat may have been owned by someone and escaped, or became lost or abandoned for some reason.  Feral cats are not just stray cats. Feral cats avoid contact with humans and are basically "wild" whereas stray cats are cats that may have strayed from home, were lost or abandoned.

  5. Holy c**p he is HUGE!!!!!!!!! I don't know! Why don't you ask the vet?

  6. He doesn't look like any particular breed of cat - like over 97% of the cats on this planet.

What he does look like is a cat badly in need of grooming - his coat looks badly matted.  Cats with long hair need to be combed - not brushed - at least every other day to prevent mats.  Brushes do little to remove the loose hairs of the undercoat and can pull out and break topcoat hairs.  A comb will gently remove the loose undercoat and leave the topcoat intact.  If his coat is too matted to comb out you may to take him to a groomer to have the matts cut out.

  7. my cat is full grown and weighs 4.5 lbs... so i think you might have a bear, not a cat.

  8. well shes definitely a long hair and shes very cute but im not exactly sure wat kind of breed

  9. im not sure but hes a cutie

  10. just a domestic long hair, maybe w/ some ragdoll in him, he is a handsome one tho

  11. the second pic is scaryy!hes cute though..beats me i dunno

  12. was he really feral (disturbed by being indoors and hates people) or just a stray (aka. lost domesticated and okay with people.)  He looks like a domestic medium hair cat.  But as big as he is, I would guess part maine coone, and part american shorthair.  How many layers of fur does he have? 3 short, medium and long, that is a thick coat? or mostly long with no undercoat for thickness, mostly fluff.
