  1. Well if you want a cheap bird a parakeet can learn to talk with time.  Any kind of parrotlet will learn to talk better but they are more expensive.

  2. love birds,parrots,cookatoos are pets pick 1 take 1!

  3. Before you consider buying a bird, will you please think about adopting one? Correct me if I'm wrong, it sounds like the "cuddly, talkative" factor is the only thing you guys are thinking about. Please look on petfinder.com to look at all the birds that need homes.

Parrots are wild; they scream your ears off every morning and night, they scatter seed/blueberries/p**p on the walls and floor every day and they cost a boatload of $$$$ to keep (chewable toys, special food, lots of diff perches, large cage). Can you(she) spend a minimum of $100 a month for 60 years? Will she even be around to care for the bird in 60 years?

If you don't get a larger bird (cockatoo, amazon, macaw), then decide on something much smaller, they are just the same commitment, but a little less mess. Parrotlets are spunky and can like petting, so are green cheek conures. But before they become your 'best buddy' you (ussually) have to tame them, and MANY people get frustrated with this. They are not domesticated like a dog or cat, they won't trust/love you right away. Please look at the MyToos webside.

On the other hand, if you do want a domesticated bird that will love and trust you right away and forever, get a dove(a pet chicken is good too). These birds are incredibly sweet and good natured to all humans. Plus they will never bite off your finger like a parrot could. I personally, want a tangarine colered dove.

Don't forget to look in your local newspaper ads for unwanted birds (don't buy from a breeder please!). Call and ask why these people have decided why a bird is not right for them. This should be a perfect time for both you and your aunt to get a reality check.

My Pet Peeve: Doves and Chickens are a breed, parrots are not. Parrots are a species. Species are God-made, Breeds are human-made. "Breed - a relatively homogenous group of animals within a species, developed and maintained by humans" Dicionary.com

  4. Budgie or Cockatiel come to mind, but your Aunt should be the one to select the bird.

We like to think we pick the bird for us, but fact is given the chance to, the bird will pick who he/she likes best.

When a bird picks us, it's  match made in heaven.
