  1. they are all comparable to each other... go to their websites and tour the functionality.. you might want to see what kind of deals they have as all sites basically are the same with the same trading costs.. goodluck out there

  2. Common sense is right. You'll get bad advice and pay dearly for it. Experience talking.

  3. If you're new to trading;

    Charles Schwab

    Somewhat experianced;

    Charles Schwab or AmeriTrade

    Need just to buy & sell,do everthing yourself.

    Scottrade

    A major rule: Never use banks or insurance companies for investments..... never!

  4. Check out sharebuilder.com

    1 very small reason $4 trades.  I like the set up they have with ING too you can link an external checking account to your ING savings account and make contributions directly to your brokerage account.

  5. Something to think about, the financial services industry is all about relationships. I would suggest a bank and investment in one. The more you have there the lower the rates are and the more benefits you can get. Bank of America has banking and investments. If you have bank accounts and investment accounts the waive custodial fees, and offer discount commisions on trades. Personally I like to get the best bang for my buck amd I have found that this relationship gives you the best bang for your buck. They offer full service advice on the investment side and self directed accounts as well.
