  1. They both eat a variety of insects, worms etc. Not seed or fruit. Butcher birds in particular will take small young from other nests and eat (butcher!) them.

  2. The eat anything they can find, I'm pretty sure it's mainly meat.

  3. My Grandad used to have one of each that would come and land on his front balcony at around the same time time every day.  He used to feed them very small scraps of raw meat kept from dinner the night before. They had become so used to him that he was able to feed them by hand.

Usually though, magpies would eat small insects or animals that live on or just underneath the ground: things like snails, lizards, spiders and beetles. The butcher bird's natural diet is similar, but contains a few fruits and seeds as well.

    Hope this helps.

  4. hi

i have a family of magpies come down every day and i feed them mince and put out some cat dry food out in a bowl as well and they love it, i also have butcher birds as well with a family and i give them the same , if you throw it up in the air the butcher birds dive to get it and then give their young some ,it is great to see, sometimes they all eat can cat and dog food, then when they have enough they go and fend for them selves, they do come back roughly the same time every day usually twice a day, morning and late afternoon, have fun , they are a joy and eventually they will feed from your hand as soon as they trust you and it does not take long at all
