I found this bug in my parent's room and squashed it... it had a long enough stinger that was about 2 or 3 inches long that i could pin it under my shoe and kill it... Can anyone tell me what bug this is?

  1. sounds like a pincher bug........depending on where you live....who knows?  You can try and yahoo search  and get a list of dark bugs with stingers maybe put in your state.area whee you live.  The last couple of years...we have seen these huge bugs that we have no clue to what they are.  They get in my back hallway...and leave as fast as they came in.  I know for a fact it isn't a roach  THANK GOD!!!!!  I could NEVER live in an apartment....ughhhhhhh some people don't care wtf is in their house.  The last week, my son had me to grab the bug spray that is suppose to work year around because he seen a bunch of these weird bugs we never seen before under a piece of wood.....It killed them all and haven't seen any since.  I am not a bug person...and as long as they stay away from my yard and house...I will not bother them, but...I am not taking any chance of them coming in once I see them and they are too close to my house....lol  We have actually relocated spiders that formed a web on my decorations on my house on the outside and furniture outside...we will politely move her to make a web someplace else.  But, if one is found in my house........it's dead !!!!!!!!!  Live and let live only applies if you don't invade my house.....

  2. Many insects insert their eggs into something, such as animal or plant tissue, or into the soil by means of an ovipositor; an extension of the terminal abdominal segments.  Ichneumonidae is a family of Hymenoptera(which also includes the wasps & bees) that have the longest ovipositor.  But their ovipositor is limited to egg laying. In wasps this ovipositor is also used in defense for stinging.  The antenna in Ichneumonidae is much longer than bees and wasps and can be as long as the body.  The ovipositor can be twice as long as the body.

Of course the ovipositor is not present in the males.
