What bug puts holes in wood??

I just noticed today holes in the sealing beams in my shed with black bee/bug think inside. It looks like a bee, but Im not sure. Anyone tell me what it is and how to get rid of them? HELLPPP!!

  1. It's probably hornets or wasps. Get a can of wasp killer that shoots like 12 feet. Blast the nests/holes with the spray and saturate. Kill all the bugs that you can that come out. They won't return to a sprayed nest.


  2. those are wood bees , i have them digging a couple of holes in my deck .  What they do is sleep in their . We filled in the holes with calk and covered the hole up and just put some poison around. Its seems to be working well so you could give it a try . GL

  5. Probably some type of carpenter bee, exactly which depends on your location. Get some bee & wasp gel spray and blast 'em.

  8. This site has a whole list of insects that destroy wood along with pictures. Hope you figure out what it is. As far as getting rid of them...I wouldn't mess around. Call an exterminator. It'll cost you, but it'll be worth it in the long run...i.e. costly repairs. Good luck!

  9. Wood boring bee-I have them too.Seal up the hole with caulk-the usually go away when you do this

  13. if it was termites there would be wings or mounds near it the other thing is carpenter bees there signature mark is holes but if its gone its because the wood is lamenent witch repels them

  18. Most likely a carpenter bee. They love untreated/unpainted wood. We have fun swating them down with tennis racquets. You can try sealing the holes up and painting a good layer of paint on the beams.

  21. Sounds like a bee to me.  I have seen them bore holes in wood.  Not sure how to get rid of them--spray??  burn??  try caulking the hole but that could be dangerous??
