What bug was this? It was brown, looked like a maggot and jumped high in the air.

I've never seen something like that in my life. It was bigger than a regular sized maggot (the shape) but it jumped very high and was dark brown in color. I tried to put a glass cup over it, but it reacted quickly and jumped up. What is it?
