Question:

What buildings to put in Old Western Town?

I am attempting to build an Old Western style town for my daughter's upcoming cowboy type birthday party. I was planning just to have a jail but would like to add more buildings now.

I've looked and looked for images but I cannot find any that will help. I know when I was looking at different western themed party supplies and ideas I came across pictures someone had posted of a party where they had made their own. Of course I cannot find that website now!

I'm thinking a jail, general store, saloon, and hotel maybe would be good. I just don't really know how they should look. I mean I could guess but I want them to look good.

Any ideas?

    Hope this helps!

  2. Sounds like you're on the right track. How about a bank, a livery (stable), church, assay office, train station, barber and a Western Union.

Jail, bank, assayer and Western Union should probably be one story. Hotel/saloon should be in the same building, two-story. General store should be two story, but no windows on the upper floor (storage). Livery should look like a barn with a loft, with a corral next to it. Church should be narrow, with a steeple and some stained glass.

How about watch some western movies? There are lots of different looks. Minimal? "High Plains Drifter". Stereotypical/cliche? "Blazing Saddles". "High Noon", "Once Upon a Time in the West" and "Big Jake" all have train station scenes. "Purgatory" has a nice church. "High Plains Drifter" has the barber shop (with striped pole), and "Pale Rider" has a pretty good general store.
