  1. All you need is a Firewire cord - also known as i.Link, IEEE 1394, and DV port

Your camcorder probably has a small 4-pin port, and your computer will have a larger 6-pin port.  You will probably need a 6-pin to 4-pin firewire cord.  If the port on your computer is the same small one on your camcorder, then you need a 4-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable.

Firewire cables can cost $15-$20 or more at Wal-Mart and similar stores, but you can find them as cheap as $1 online with free shipping.

  2. Yuo nieed Firewire cable.. and - more importantly you need Firewire port in your computer, which not all computers have. If you have desktop with no firewire, go on eBay and buy combo firewire card + cable - usually for less than $20. If you have laptop with no firewire, you would need firewire PCMCIA card (and cable) somethink like this:

which you should be able to get again below $20.

DO not try to transfer movie from minDV tape via USB, because it will not work. (or will very slowly and crappy) USB port on miniDV cameras is used for transfer of still pictures from memory card. The actual video needs firewire.

    Have fun. Johnny
