We've had both & DirectTV has been the better provider.

I think you'll be happier with DirecTV, especially if you have a larger screen on your TV.  Dish networks tends to over-compress and that affects picture quality.

Now your real issue is service timing.  DirecTV outsources most of that, so for the tech to cancel then give you a date far out is simply unacceptable.  You should call DirecTV back directly (not the tech) and complain and ask to be assigned to a different tech.
