What cable types can DVI be converted to?

I have seen DVI to HDMI, but I'm curious if you can convert DVI (like from a computer) to s-video, composite (RCA), or component. I have seen some component adapters but they are only for certain ATI video cards.

I'm curious because I want to build a Home Theater PC and the motherboard I like has DVI and HDMI, but I do not have a DVI or HDMI tv, only an HDTV with svideo, composite, and component. Thanks!

  1. DVI can only be converted to HDMI and VGA, most motherboards that come with HDMI and DVI come with an adapter to convert to VGA, the only way to convert VGA is using a PC to TV adapter which is far from cheap (about 40-100 dollars) and the other problem is that these adapters do not produce HD quality video.

  2. DVI is digital. All the other types you mention are analog.

There is something called High Def Copy Protection built into the DVI/HDMI signaling which prevents you from converting high def content to analog to thwart all the pirates who would take a BluRay disk and use a converter like you want into VHS or VideoCD and flood Asia with copies.
