  1. a VGA CABLE YOU WILL ALSO NEED A AUDIO CABLE

  2. Just a monitor cable if you have the correct socket for it.

  3. Your tv set must have a 15-pin sub-D type socket (sometimes called an SVGA). This will look like the external monitor socket that you'll see on the back of your computer.

A suitable svga cable will be available from computer shops and PC World for a few pounds.

Most laptops and some PCs have an S-Video output ocket on them. This is a small round 4-pin socket. If you have one of these then you can connect it directly to your tv set's S-Video input socket (most tv sets have these for camcorder inputs).

If your tv doesn't have a socket dedicated for this purpose then you'll need an adaptor to make it fit the tv SCART socket. This will be much more expensive. Try Maplin electronics.

Don't try making one up yourself because the electrical characteristics of svga and SCART are slightly different.

  4. That depends on what kind of TV you have and what kind of video card your computer has.  Many HD TVs have several types of inputs including VGA.  Some PCs have video cards with S-video outputs that are compatible with many of the more recent standard definition TVs.  If you don't have an HDTV or a video output, you might have to replace your video card.  Keep in mind that a standard definition TV has a relatively low resolution, 640 x 480 or less, so it won't be as good as a PC monitor for text and high-res graphics but it might be OK for gaming.
